BBCOR stands for Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution… BBCOR. Get it?
I could bore you with the math equation behind BBCOR, but you wanted to know what BBCOR really means, not fall asleep.
Essentially, a scientist shoots a baseball out of a air cannon (in a lab in Washington) and measures how fast the baseball bounces (hits) off the barrel of the bat. If the baseball hits off the barrel too hard it fails the test, naturally if the baseball is at or below the limit it passes and is given the BBCOR stamp of approval.
The test costs the bat makers about $4,000 per size, per bat, which is not refunded if the bat fails the test.
What does this mean to you? BBCOR bats have a ceiling of performance. This makes the playing field fair and safe for everyone.
